Barnt Green Surgery sought the expertise of Architectural Wallsz to revamp their reception area and staff offices. Their goal was to enhance both aesthetics and functionality, creating a more welcoming and efficient environment for patients while prioritising staff well-being. This project demonstrates our capability to deliver modern, patient-centric solutions within a healthcare setting.
Barnt Green Surgery’s reception area was outdated and dark, characterised by dim lighting, and worn mahogany timber frames and panelling. The space needed a modern upgrade without losing its timeless appeal, while also enhancing staff well-being and creating a more welcoming environment for patients.
The redesigned waiting area now offers a dynamic, patient-friendly environment with modern individual seating that enhances comfort and flexibility in spatial arrangement. The previous fixed banquet seating with under-seat heating was replaced by discreet low surface temperature (LST) radiators along the perimeter, providing safe and efficient climate control. A bespoke glazed partition was installed, dividing the reception and waiting area to accommodate the surgery’s need for versatile space.
Recognising the pivotal role of staff comfort, the reception office was reimagined with wellbeing at its core. Robust, fixed safety screens with a pass-through hatch replaced temporary screen partitions, establishing a secure yet functional barrier between staff and patients. The outdated roller storage system was eliminated, facilitating the transition to a paperless file management system, and aligning with the healthcare industry’s shift toward digital record-keeping. Dimmable individually controlled light fixtures were introduced, fostering a more conducive workspace.
New fire doors and replacement of the fire alarm system ensured compliance with the latest safety standards. Accessibility improvements included expanded doorways equipped with integrated push-button technology, facilitating ease of access.
The completed renovation at Barnt Green Surgery now exudes lightness and openness, enhancing functionality and comfort for both staff and patients. The project highlights the value of thoughtful design in healthcare environments, meeting contemporary standards while serving as a timeless, practical solution.
